This 1951 Mercury Monterey Lead Sled is propelled on the asphalt by a 472 CID Cadillac motor mated to GM's legendary Turbo 400 automatic transmission. With only 406 miles since being built and a folder of documentation, these brand new white wall radial tires are ready for some weekend cruises.
Take 10 minutes and walk around this beauty as you begin to notice all the custom finishes. The frenched-in headlights, turn signal lights, 54 Mercury taillights, and frenched antenna are complimented well with real Gold leaf flake that only gets better as you get closer. Fender and hood flares flow with the lines of the Lead Sled as the chopped appearance of the Mercury is finished off with a champagne-like gold metallic paint. The gold leaf in the flames looks like real fire when the sun hits it! The flames are done extremely well and are buried under the clear so when you run your hand down the fender you feel nothing but a smooth glass-like finish.
Under the hood you notice the cut & buff that went towards the overall finish. Almost glimmering off the bottom-side of the hood is the massive 472 block, color-coated to the body and accented with chrome finishes and more flames with real gold leaf. Who doesn't love that kind of shimmer? A classic Caddy air cleaner is paired with polished and chrome accessories including the A/C compressor, alternator, and power steering pump. An aluminum radiator with electric fan keeps this big block cool. Even the brake booster and master cylinder are painted to match the car. This Merc really is show quality throughout!
The interior is just as customized, as the Mercury Man is embroidered into suede parts of the seats. Stewart Warner gauges are wrapped around by beautifully finished wood fascia that continues all the way into the rear of the car, on the seats, and in the door sills. Deck speakers compliment the front door speakers for a great sound system with an AM/FM/CD player. The trunk lid has been smoothed, so a button on the dash releases the trunk. The door handles are smoothed as well and the car is finished off with tilt steering, power windows, power steering, power front disc brakes, radial white wall tires, hub caps, fender skirts, A/C, AM/FM/CD player, leather and suede interior, and dual exhaust. That exhaust sings the song of the Cadillac big block engine and has a true hot rod sound when you give it a rev! Pictures do not do this car justice.
