Afzelia Burl, Afzelia Xylocarpa, This wood came from a huge burl that was sitting around in a lumber dealers lot for years then bought by another dealer years ago, The outside of the burl had insect damage so no one was willing to take the risk of buying the huge chunks that were for sale. The dealer I got it from milled it into smaller slabs and so I thought it was time to take the plunge,The piece I got has just minimal insect damage to the outer sapwood,see photos.
