Description
This unique display piece used to be a part of the J.C. Penney Museum. Professionally mounted Lamson Cash Carrier was used in many businesses in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to carry cash or documents to an office to complete a transaction. The money was put inside the wood cup and the receipt was clipped onto the bottom of the cup. Then it was pulled along a cable strung overhead into a cashier’s office where the change was placed in the cup and sent back to the sales floor. Also inside the display is a part of a Lamson pneumatic tube system that was used for the same purpose when the wood cup became outdated. It includes a collection tube, plus a piece of the pipe used to send the tube to the office.
This is a beautifully well preserved display for the collector.
The display is plywood covered in felt with a custom made plexiglass frame. There are hangers on the back so it is ready to hang and display in your home or office. Please see photos.
I have many parts and pieces of the wood cash carrier system and of the pneumatic tube system including a much larger Museum Display piece featuring the wood cash carrier with rails, pulleys and even an original receipt from the Golden Rule Store which was Penney's first store. Please contact me if you have any interest and would like to see more photographs.
This display is 22” x 25” x 5" and weighs 21lbs. I can ship it, arrange for pick up in the Minneapolis/St Paul area or remove the pieces and ship them without the display. I would have to take it apart to ship because the tube and the cash carrier could become loose if the package was tipped on its side or upside down and then risk damage. It could easily be reassembled upon delivery. There is a small scratch on the front of the plexiglass.
