Overview for the SubSurface Instruments LD-12 Professional Water Leak Detector
The SSI LD-12 Professional Water Leak Detector is the leak detection tool you need to pinpoint the source of your water system losses. The LD-12 comes with a sensitive ground microphone so that you can listen for leaks in a variety of terrain. The mic comes with a removable 3-prong base for listening at hard surfaces, such as pavement or cobbles. If you remove the prongs the magnet base can be attached to cast iron water hydrants, steel valves, and other ferrous fixtures, allowing you to hear noises coming through the pipes. The sensor is waterproof and comes with two waterproof cables (6' and 10') so that it can be lowered into deep valves. The 3-section contact rod is for listening at non-ferrous fixtures and grassy or earthen areas, such as yards.
A Powerful and Flexible Tool
This piece of water leak detection equipment is designed to help you get a fix on your leak problem. The amplifier has a frequency range of 15Hz - 30,000Hz that you can fine-tune in a variety of ways. There are 3 low (100Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz) and 3 high (600Hz, 800Hz, 1200Hz) frequency filters so that you can listen for leak sounds in a specific range. Usually when the unit is first turned on the lowest and highest filters are selected, giving you a range of 100Hz - 1200Hz. The various filter combinations give you 9 different frequency ranges to which you can listen. If you press the “filter thru” switch on the side of the amplifier, you can turn off all of the filters. This ability to adjust your listening range is great for eliminating distracting noises, such as traffic and wind.
Amplification is 62 dB ±3 dB so that you can pick up the tiniest sounds. There's a limiter switch on the side of the amplifier that cuts out noises over 110 dB to protect operator hearing. The needle gauge display is backlit so you can easily see it in low light conditions. You can use the display to track the loudness of the leak sounds instead of having to guess. The over-the-ear headphones block outside noise and have soft leather covers that make them comfortable to wear, even if the job takes hours.
Dimensions
The amplifier is 6.7”W x 4.1”D x 2.8”H and weighs 31 oz. It comes with a soft fitted case for protection. The LD-12 comes with a sturdy hard-sided carrying case with fitted foam insert. The case is 18.5”W x 7.5”D x 14.6”H and total weight with all the equipment is 16.4 lbs. The power source is 6 “AA” batteries. Those give you an operating time of of 14 to 28 hours, depending on your backlight usage.
